Better Flashlight Addon
Better Flashlight Addon — V1.1 Dev Beta + Vibrant Visuals
The standalone horror/survival flashlight is back — polished, with built-in Vibrant Visuals support, and still no experimental world toggles. A flashlight that actually feels like one: beam, battery drain, flicker, and sound. Works on its own on classic graphics; optional warmer cinematic beam when you turn on Vibrant Visuals in video settings.
What’s new in V1.1
- Pack icon — flashlight + batteries
- Full item icons — Empty, OFF, ON, Dead, Battery, Dead Battery (OFF icon fixed)
- Vibrant Visuals beam — warm graded light along the cone when VV graphics + Point lights are on in video settings
- Classic mode unchanged — same flashlight without touching any world experiments
What you get
A full flashlight lifecycle
This isn’t a single “on/off” item. You craft a shell, install batteries, run the light until it dies, eject the dead cell, recharge it, and do it again.
- Flashlight (Empty) — shell with no battery; install a charged battery to use it
- Flashlight OFF / ON — right-click to toggle; the beam follows where you look
- Flashlight DEAD — battery died inside; right-click to eject it (sound → short delay → dead battery out → empty shell again)
Batteries
- Flashlight Battery — charge on the durability bar; stacks to 16
- Dead Flashlight Battery — what you get when a flashlight dies; empty bar, same 3D model in hand
- Recharge: Dead Battery + Redstone at a crafting table → full battery
- Hot-swap: Use a charged battery on a powered flashlight; only 1 is taken from a stack; your old battery goes back to inventory, or drops at your feet if your inventory is full
Crafting
- Empty flashlight: glass pane, iron, copper, redstone
- Battery: redstone, iron nuggets, coal
- Recharge: dead battery + redstone
- Quick revive: dead flashlight + battery at a table → flashlight OFF (shortcut if you don’t want to eject first)
Gameplay feel
Dynamic light beam
Light along your view direction — up to ~18 blocks, fading with distance. Stays on in chat, inventory, or while standing still (no more beam dying when you pause to read).
Per-flashlight charge
Two flashlights in your inventory keep separate battery levels — swapping items doesn’t sync them.
Battery life
About 3 minutes of runtime per full charge (at normal tick rate).
Low battery tension
As charge drops:
- Warning beeps (noticeable, not ear-splitting)
- One-time tutorial hints per world (won’t spam every time)
- Flicker that gets worse as the battery dies
- At critical levels, the light can stutter off briefly — then come back
- Very rare chance the flashlight breaks on toggle → dead state and the full eject flow
Sound design
Custom audio for toggle on/off, running hum, flicker, low/critical beeps, battery install/eject, and the moment the battery dies.
3D models in hand
Attachable models for the flashlight (empty, off, on, dead) and both battery types (including dead).
Vibrant Visuals (optional look)
Works like a normal flashlight by default. For the warm cinematic beam we showed in dev:
- Video settings → Graphics: Vibrant Visuals
No world experiments. No beta gameplay toggles.
Known Quirks
Since our flashlight places light block in front of you, placing blocks is funky while you are shining the flashlight where you want to place blocks. If you are playing on a multiplayer world, you will find this bug. You cannnnn prank your friends though lol. All other flashlight addons that work without shaders use light blocks. It's the only way to emit light that I know of in the game. Ya know, via blocks. Entities don't work, etc. We have tried a lot of options.
For testers / devs
/scriptevent fl:flashlight_reset_hints— reset one-time tutorial messages- Sneak + use an OFF flashlight — sound diagnostic test
/scriptevent fl:flashlight_sound_debug— verbose sound logging
How to install
Minecraft Bedrock 1.26.3+ — no experimental settings required.
- Import Better Flashlight Addon — V1.1 Dev Beta + Vibrant Visuals BP and RP.
- Enable both packs on your world.
- That’s it — no beta toggles, no experimental gameplay flags.
This is a dev beta
Everything above is in and working — battery loop, beam, flicker, sounds, swap/eject, recharge, icons, and optional Vibrant Visuals lighting. We’re shipping to Patreon and CurseForge first so you can break it, feel it, and tell us what to polish before a wider release.
It is still known that having a friend place blocks in the light beam may not work… So, troll your friends all you like, or play by yourself.
Try it in the dark. Let us know what hits and what doesn’t.
