Sweep 'N Slash is an add-on that introduces parts of the combat aspects from Java Edition's 1.9 Combat Update into Bedrock Edition.

Starting from v3.0.0, Beta API is no longer required for stable releases.

Gametest version is for compatibility with add-ons that use Gametest API (such as Understudy and Sandbox), which is NOT compatible with Aternos.

Please download stable release if you do not know what this means.

This add-on is available exclusively on GitHub, CurseForge, MCPEDL and PlanetMinecraft.

Main features

Sweep Attacks for Swords, No Shield Knockbacks

Sweep 'N Slash adds sweep attacks for swords and disables shield knockback.

Java Edition Damage Calculation

Sweep 'N Slash converts damage calculation into the one Java Edition uses.

The GIF below demonstrates the player dealing 36.5 damage to a husk, which is the maximum non-mace damage possible to undeads or arthropods. (Netherite axe, Strength II, Critical hit, Smite V)

Nearly Accurate Knockbacks

Sweep 'N Slash uses custom knockback mechanics to bring knockbacks from Java Edition into Bedrock as close as possible.
(Please note that Bedrock Edition's knockback mechanics in general are different than the one in Java Edition.)

Saturation Healing

Sweep 'N Slash introduces accurate saturation healing mechanics into Bedrock.
(Note: This feature forces Natural Regeneration gamerule off. You have to enable it back when you disable this feature. Also, it is not recommended to use this feature if you have other saturation healing addons enabled.)

Attack Indicator Styles

Sweep 'N Slash allows you to pick the indicator styles. There are Crosshair, Hotbar, Geyser styles. (Available in config menu)

Customizable Sweep Attack Colors

You can customize sweep particle colors, and it even shows for other players! (Available in config menu)

Additional Features

  • Serverside configurations: Mid-game add-on toggle, Debug Mode ('sweepnslash.config' tag)
  • Axe vs. Shield option toggle, saturation healing toggle for players with operator permission
  • Java Essentials' Team mechanics compatibility ('ae_je:team:' is the prefix of team tags)
  • Projectiles inheriting shooter's velocity

Incompatibilites

This is a list of confirmed incompatibilites which cannot be fixed for reasons.

  • Java Aspects (Resource Pack): Crit and sprint knockback sounds will play regardless of conditions because the sounds are handled via Molang in the pack's sounds.json. No workarounds.
  • VDX: Java/Desktop UI (Resource Pack): Incompatible UI.
  • True Weapons: Uses hit events for handling item functions, which makes it impossible to recreate functions.
  • EmptyCoso's Dungeons Content: Uses hit events for handling item functions, which makes it impossible to recreate functions. Might work on that in the future.
  • RLCraft (Marketplace): Uses player.json, which makes it incompatible.

Frequently Made Suggestions

This is a list of frequently made suggestions.

Attack animations: Desired but will not add for now

This is one of the features that we really want, but the maintenance cost of current "best" method is too high, as it requires us to add attachments for every single items.

Ability to use items in Offhand: Not from this add-on

Adding Offhand support for mobile users is very tricky. It is simply not possible for us to implement it in a way that everyone would like.

Mojang developers are considering implementation of Offhand support. But it hasn't been fully planned yet. According to one of the Mojangsters in Bedrock Add-Ons Discord server:

"This is just very early investigations into the problem space and needs to prepare for planning. Nothing being worked on yet." — Anjku

Holding interact (right-click) for shield: No

Shield in Java Edition requires holding interact to use, while Bedrock Edition uses sneaking. The reason why Bedrock uses sneaking is mainly due to the environment that many players are in: Touchscreen.

  • For Tap-to-Interact, holding interact is not feasible in this control scheme.
  • For Action Buttons, it can be overwhelming since touchscreen control does not have as much freedom as other control methods.

Sweeping Edge enchantment: Yes but will not add for now

This is very desired, but unless Bedrock gets official custom enchantment, it will not be added. Until then, all the sweep attacks will have Sweeping Edge I property by default.

Techniques from JE in general: No

Many techniques from Java Edition are mainly exploits of system, one of them being "Attribute Swapping". Most of player actions in Java Edition are client authoritative, and player's attack damage is dictated by what player is holding. However, Bedrock does not do this. Attacking and swapping at the same tick will cause the game to force swap player's selected slot to previous one and void the attack.

On top of that, the add-on works by directly calling data-driven stats of an item from scripts, which makes most of the exploits impossible to recreate since all the functionalities are server-sided.

AppleSkin: Being worked on

The add-on has Saturation Healing feature. Due to the nature of this add-on, other AppleSkin add-on generally causes conflict and does not work, so we decided to make our own.
